Questions about WiPro III safe.lock

We are continuously developing the WiPro III safe.lock and regularly release new software versions. These include all functions of the previous versions.
For vehicles where the horn only works with the ignition, a siren is required.

You use the THITRONIK® camping mode in certain motorhome models (e.g. Mercedes Sprinter from 2018, Ford Transit from 2024 and Ford Transit/Tourneo Custom from 2023) when you are travelling with your vehicle, e.g. on holiday at a campsite. 
If you stay at the same place for a while, you can safely store your original vehicle key(s) in the safe and lock and unlock your motorhome exclusively with THITRONIK® accessories (e.g. via the app (Bluetooth and SMS), radio hand-held transmitter, KeyCard, KeyTag and KeyStrap) while simultaneously arming and disarming your WiPro III safe.lock alarm system.

To take full advantage of the convenience of THITRONIK® accessories, you should use THITRONIK® exclusively to lock/arm the vehicle, as the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with THITRONIK® accessories after locking with the original key. If you have locked your vehicle with THITRONIK® accessories, it can still be unlocked with the original key.

For safety reasons, locking/arming is not carried out in the following cases to prevent accidental locking out. Instead, the WiPro III safe.lock emits a warning tone and the hazard warning lights flash in the same rhythm:

• when you lock the vehicle with the original vehicle key and then open a door from the inside
• when the vehicle is automatically relocked after unlocking with the original vehicle key and you then open a door from the inside.

hese models do not allow the vehicle's switch lock to be deactivated. Hence, unlocking/disarming with THITRONIK® accessories (radio hand-held transmitter 868, NFC module or THITRONIK® app) is not possible, if the vehicle has been locked/armed with the original vehicle key.

In the Camping mode, we therefore recommend that you always lock the vehicle using THITRONIK® accessories (THITRONIK® app (Bluetooth and SMS), radio hand-held transmitter, KeyCard, KeyTag and KeyStrap). If the vehicle has been locked with THITRONIK® accessories, you can still unlock it with the original vehicle key. The automatic re-locking (Auto-Close) of the vehicle is not active in this case.

Restrictions in case of vehicles with start button:
WiPro III safe.lock is currently not able to address the central locking system of vehicles equipped with a start button.

Problems installing the WiPro III safe.lock in VW Crafter / MAN TGE 2017+:
In some VW Crafter / MAN TGE vehicles as of model year 2017, the CAN bus switches to sleep mode after some time, which means that the WiPro III safe.lock cannot address the central locking system.

Please carry out the following steps to find out whether the WiPro III safe.lock will be able to control the central locking system:

• Lock the vehicle remotely using the original key.
• Wait for 8 minutes.
• Check whether you can completely unlock the vehicle manually using the driver's door lock.

If it is possible to unlock the driver's door only while all other doors remain locked, the WiPro III safe.lock unfortunately cannot control the central locking system.

Locking and unlocking with the original vehicle key:
Please note: When locking the vehicle with the original vehicle key, unlocking using THITRONIK® accessories (Wireless remote control 868, NFC Module, or THITRONIK® app) is no longer possible.

For camping operations, it is recommended to always lock the vehicle using THITRONIK® accessories (Wireless remote control 868, NFC Module, or THITRONIK® app). If the vehicle is locked with THITRONIK® accessories, it can still be unlocked using the original vehicle key. Automatic relocking (auto-close) of the vehicle is not active in this case.

During extended periods of inactivity (without charging the starter battery), it is advisable to lock the vehicle with the original vehicle key, as this is the only way to put it into sleep mode.

Required additional horn:
In your vehicle type, the vehicle horn only works with the ignition activated and cannot be triggered in the event of an alarm. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to use an THITRONIK® Auxiliary horn.

Restrictions concerning WiPro III safe.lock in case of semi-integrated vehicles with Eura Mobil body shell:
In these vehicles, only the driver and passenger doors can be locked with THITRONIK® accessories, but not the body door. However, it is possible to unlock the vehicle and disarm the WiPro III safe.lock with THITRONIK® accessories.
If THITRONIK® accessories (NFC module, radio hand-held transmitter etc.) are to be used for the vehicle, make sure that the body door is locked separately by hand or that all doors are locked using the original radio key.

Restrictions for WiPro III safe.lock in vehicles with comfort control of the driver's seats:
In these vehicles, it is currently not possible for the WiPro III safe.lock to control the central locking system, consequently the safe.lock function cannot yet be used.

Restrictions in case of Hymer modifications of semi-integrated and fully integrated Mercedes Sprinter vehicles:
In some partially and fully integrated models of the Mercedes Sprinter VS30, Hymer-related modifications to the vehicle electrics result in the WiPro III safe.lock not being able to address the central locking system at all or not as expected.

Unfortunately, it is necessary to test the individual vehicle in order to determine whether the safe.lock function can be used.

Restrictions concerning WiPro III safe.lock in case of semi-integrated or fully integrated vehicles without door control unit:
In rare cases, the yellow door control unit cable is missing in semi- or fully integrated vehicles, which means that the WiPro III safe.lock cannot address the central locking system.
Unfortunately, it is necessary to test the individual vehicle in order to determine whether the safe.lock function can be used.
For this reason, please contact your local dealer or our support team.

Complications when locking and unlocking with the original vehicle key:
Please note: When locking the vehicle with the original vehicle key, unlocking using THITRONIK® accessories (Wireless remote control 868, NFC Module, or THITRONIK® app) is no longer possible.

Additional horn required:

The "Shift lock" option in the vehicle's on-board computer must be selectable and deactivated. Only then can the WiPro III safe.lock be used from serial number 5298-001 and software version 7.4.0.s.

WiPro III (safe.lock) is approved according to ECE regulation R10, both as a retrofit alarm system and as optional equipment for vehicle manufacturers.
This approval is the only applicable regulation. 
ECE Regulation R116 (protection against unauthorised use) only applies to standard equipment. Moreover, it is considered obsolete.

If your vehicle's alarm system suddenly stops working (for no apparent reason or after a workshop visit) or if it only works to a limited extent, this may be due to a software update that was carried out in a workshop or automatically on your vehicle.
As a consequence of this software update, the vehicle may have been reset to the factory settings or or the update may require that certain settings are made again.

The required steps depend on your vehicle type:

• If your vehicle is a Ford Transit 2019+:
  Then the alarm system requires the switch lock to be deactivated on the onboard computer. If this deactivation setting has been reset by the software update, you have to make it again manually on the onboard computer.

• If your vehicle is a Fiat Ducato 8:
  Then the functions "Indicators flash when locking" and "Doors are unlocked when exiting" must be activated on the onboard computer. If these settings have been reset by the software update, you must make them again manually on the onboard computer.

Please proceed as follows:

On your onboard computer, select the "Settings" menu and then "Doors and locks". In this menu, activate the two settings "Unlock door when getting out" and "Flash hazard warning lights when locking".

Note:
If these menu items are not displayed on your onboard computer, the WiPro III safe.lock is unfortunately not suited for your vehicle.

Please proceed as follows:

In your onboard computer, select the "Settings" menu and then "Vehicle settings". Under "Vehicle settings" you will find the menu item "Switch lock". Deactivate the menu item "Switch lock".

Note:
If the menu of your onboard computer does not display this menu item, the WiPro III safe.lock unfortunately is not suited for your vehicle.

Burglars unlock the vehicle with a copied ‘unlock’ signal from the original vehicle remote control. The vehicle cannot distinguish between this external signal and the original signal and unlocks the vehicle without leaving any signs of break-in. And because the signal is routed through the CAN bus, all CAN bus alarm systems are disarmed.
Because this break-in and theft of valuables cannot be proven (no traces left), the insurance doesn’t pay.

The following models are affected:

• Fiat Ducato (2006-2018)
• Peugeot Boxer (2006-2018)
• Citroen Jumper (2006-2018)
• Iveco Daily (2006-2018)

Since model year 2019, the original vehicle remote control key has had a rolling code. This can be recognised by the new key ring eyelet. It is made of black plastic instead of the previous chrome-plated metal.
Through the use of WiPro III safe.lock, you also have several comfort functions, e.g. control of the central locking system with the Thitronik wireless remote control 868 and unlocking of the vehicle doors via the Pro-finder or via Bluetooth with the network module, available to you.

If you haven’t used the conversion board thus far, the original central locking system will continue working normally. Nothing is changed on the vehicle in this regard. However, the WiPro III safe.lock deliberately ignores the signals from the original remote control (that come via the CAN bus) and even if the door could be unlocked mechanically, it remains secured by the alarm.

The Thitronik® safe.lock conversion circuit board (Art.No.: 101052) is suitable for all Fiat Ducato and identical models such as the Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper or Iveco Daily, from the year of manufacture 2006 - 2018. These vehicles have a general security gap.

For WiPro safe.lock-compatible vehicles such as the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom from 2019+, as well as the Fiat Ducato from 2018+ and identical models, the conversion of the original radio hand key is no longer required.

For the time being, you should no longer use it without a safe.lock product. The ‘unlock’ signal for the replay attacks can also be recorded outside your range of vision.
Tip: Remove the button cell from the flip key and unlock your vehicle manually; that way you won’t be in danger of forgetting and unlocking it electronically.

If you have a WiPro III safe.lock (art. no. 101050), have your WiPro III upgraded or use the safe.lock module (art. no. 101051) to control the central locking system, the conversion board (art. no. 101052) can be used for the vehicle key. It is registered like a Thitronik wireless remote control 868, e.g., on the safe.lock product.

You purchase this conversion board from your dealer, who will also convert your key. A manual is supplied for the conversion of the flip key, so the housing and key blade are reused.

Important note: To start the vehicle as usual with the flip key, you will also need a transponder for the immobiliser. Unfortunately, the one from the removed original board cannot be reused. A copy (so-called clone) of the immobiliser must be made. Your THITRONIK® safe.lock Premium partner will assume this task (link to Dealer finder). Go to the safe.lock Premium partner with your vehicle and ignition key on the scheduled date.  The transponder is not included in the scope of delivery of our products, but does not have to be organised in advance. The business with the copying device keeps the blanks. If you are interested in having a second remote control key, our safe.lock Premium partners can offer one to you cheaply and already with secure THITRONIK® technology.

• Remove WiPro III central panel (or have removed)
• Complete, print out and sign this form
• Send both together to Thitronik (without further accessories or keys!)
• WiPro III receives the upgrade
• WiPro III is returned along with the invoice (to be paid by direct debit
• Central control unit is reinstalled the wires for controlling the central locking system are connected
• Re-teach the existing radio accessories (input and output tests make this step necessary)
• You can now safely lock/unlock your vehicle
• The serial number is changed in the Thitronik app (1050-004 or higher)

Any WiPro III can be upgraded.

In general, to convert the key, you first need a copy of the immobiliser. Our safe.lock Premium Partners will do this. It doesn’t make sense to convert the key beforehand because it will have to be read out in its original form.

A CAN bus in a vehicle is an electronic network that connects electronic control units with information via a 2-wire communication line. For example, original door contacts and wireless remote controls are integrated into the CAN bus.

Thitronik alarm systems do not intervene in the CAN bus, but only passively read out the information. The alarm system is therefore not capable of causing interference in the CAN bus. Even especially ‘sensitive’ vehicles are not affected.

If you do not know the current serial numbers of the WiPro or Pro-finder, you can enter the following values for a nearly complete range of options:

Only the latest functions (starting from 10/2018) ‘locking/unlocking the central locking system’ and ‘teach-in mode’ (easy add 3.0) work on devices with serial numbers starting from:

If your Pro-finder or your WiPro III or WiPro III safe.lock does not support these functions, you can have the devices updated to enable all functions.

You may also hear a 9-tone sequence when you activate the ignition. This is the vent check function, which warns you of any open wireless magnetic contacts when you set off. It is basically a pre-departure check to make sure you don’t lose your roof vents (or similar) en route.

The repeated signal tone in a different pitch (a sequence of 9 short tones that sound before the single (lower) ‘armed’ signal tone) is an indication of the ventilation function.

Through it, WiPro warns you that one or more wireless magnetic contacts are open when you are locking the vehicle. The system is armed and monitors all closed contacts, but the ones that are already open are ignored or excluded from the circuit until the next locking operation. If you want to close the open windows/doors again, you don’t have to disarm/unlock. As soon as you have closed the corresponding openings, they are monitored again by the system after a 4-second delay.

The different signal tones and their meanings are given in the overview below.

You can replace the batteries (CR2032 button cells) in wireless components yourself.

To change the transmitter battery in a wireless magnetic contact:

Lever open the housing at the notch on the long housing side. Take out the printed circuit board and replace the battery with one of the same type (CR2032). Ensure correct polarity when inserting the battery.

To change the transmitter battery in a radio cable loop:

Open the housing by removing the screws on the bottom. Replace the battery with one of the same type (CR2032). Ensure correct polarity and correct alignment of the rubber seal when inserting the battery.

To change the transmitter battery in a wireless remote control:

Open the housing by removing the screws. Replace the battery with one of the same type (CR2032) and ensure correct polarity when inserting.

Please make sure you don’t leave any fingerprints on the button cells when you change the batteries (this can lead to a higher self-discharge rate). Please take button cells to a battery recycling centre or collection point. They can be recycled there.

You can generally expect to be able to use them for about two years. The number of transmission signals does not affect the lifetime as much as long cold periods do.

The radio components use standard button cells (type CR2032). These button cells can be stored for up to ten years (refer to label). However, the button cells should be replaced every two years in order to adhere to the warranty conditions (the manufacturer offers a 2-year warranty against leakage).

We recommend to use Panasonic batteries.

In order to remind yourself to replace the batteries in time, we recommend to change them, for example, with every vehicle inspection and/or gas inspection.

If the battery is running low (<2.6V), the control unit issues an acoustic signal (for two seconds) when triggering the radio component and the red LED of the transmitter only turns off after about 30 seconds. If one button cell is weak, it is best to replace all of them.

If a 2-second-long signal tone is emitted by the alarm system, a taught-in accessory part requiring a battery change was actuated immediately before that. This is also indicated by a 30-second-long visual signal on wireless magnetic contacts and radio cable loops.
Occurs:

• when wireless magnetic contacts on doors/windows/hatches are opened/closed
• when remote transmitters and conversion boards are actuated (‘remote controls’)
• when the cable loop is used in the holder

If a wireless accessory sends an alert, the other button cells are probably just as old. A complete change is recommended. Please take button cells to a battery recycling centre or collection point. They can be recycled there.

Professionally skilled people are quite capable of installing alarm systems themselves. However, when it comes to connecting to the CAN bus, special expertise, increased precision and the right tool are required. Only through installation at a garage can you be certain that the function will be retained over the long term and you are not endangering your environment or jeopardising the vehicle warranty. This is exactly what the WiPro III has an alarm memory for. It shows via a blink code on the status LED what the alarm was triggered by after the alarm has been disarmed.  Please also see the chapter on the alarm memory in the operating manual or quick guide.

The WiPro III is a modular system that permits later addition of components at any time.
Thus, you can easily react to changes in the vehicle conditions or your personal safety requirements.

Version 2.0 of the easy-add function enables teach-in of wireless accessories on the central control unit either with a wireless remote control or the driver-side door (CAN):

• Disconnect the power to the WiPro III central control unit for about 10 seconds.
• Reconnect the power and either press the large button / loudspeaker button on the wireless remote control 868 5 times or open and close the driver-side door 5 times within 30 seconds.
• WiPro acknowledges this with a beep and the status LED in the dashboard lights up continuously in red – the alarm system is now ready for teach-in of a new wireless accessory. Now trigger the wireless accessory by opening/closing. From the central control unit, 2 different signal tones sound as acknowledgement.
• Disconnect the power again and reconnect. – That’s it.                                                                                                                                            

In combination with the Pro-finder (software-dependent), the teach-in operation can also be started via a text message command (easy add 3.0) without interrupting the power supply. Please use the Thitronik app for this.

ITHITRONIK® alarm systems are deliberately designed without motion detectors, since motion detectos are error-prone – no matter whether they are using ultrasound, radar or infrared technology.

This particularly applies to the leisure vehicle segment, where false alarms can be caused by moving curtains, trucks driving by, branches hitting the roof, trapped insects etc.
Furthermore, it is not possible to leave children or animals in the vehicle while the alarm systems is armed. Without these alarms, there is no protection; switching them off after lengthy periods is often complicated and not reproducible.

You shouldn’t have to worry about false alarms or the necessity of disconnecting these alarms. In your leisure time, the focus should be on ease of mind and simple operation.
