Gas warning systems are often said to be prone to false alarms.
Above a certain concentration, gas sensors also react to substances similar to anaesthetic gases. Technically speaking, these are not false alarms; the gas alarm is triggered by, for example, deodorant sprays, aftershave, strong cleaning agents, body odours (particularly from pets) or even breath alcohol.
Despite temperature compensation, continuous self-tests and intelligent software analysis of the sensor’s readings, false alarms cannot be completely ruled out. However, by ensuring the correct installation height, unwanted alarms triggered by the substances mentioned above can be significantly minimised.
